Senior Legal Counsel - Issuer Services Legal / GCB4 / London

HSBC’s Legal function plays a critical role in supporting the bank’s global operations, managing legal risk, and ensuring the efficient and effective use of external legal resources. We work closely with leading law firms and alternative legal service providers to secure the best commercial and strategic outcomes for the bank.

We are currently seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join the CIB Legal Team, supporting the Issuer Services business. Issuer Services is HSBC’s tailored corporate trust and loan agency solutions business.

Responsibilities
  • Support Issuer Services’ initiatives / projects including regulatory, transformation or simplification projects, as well as in relation to litigious or potentially litigious matters.
  • Manage the Issuer Services business’s legal risk to ensure that HSBC’s interests are adequately protected.
  • Build a trusted adviser relationship with the Issuer Services business and related functions, ensuring that commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical legal advice is provided that incorporates legal, reputational and other relevant risk considerations.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the transactions that Issuer Services is involved in and applicable market terms and practice and build. Also manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders including within the business and functions.
  • Identify and evaluate new legal, regulatory and market developments that can affect business activities, sharing legal knowledge and best practices with relevant internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Qualified Lawyer with significant post-qualification experience in corporate trust and loan agency, gained either within a financial institution or top tier private practice.
  • Experienced and confident practitioner with experience with relevant and complex legal documentation and multi‑jurisdictional / cross‑border issues.
  • Excellent negotiation and advisory skills and will have demonstrated the ability to take initiative and apply good commercial and legal judgment.
  • Ability to handle a diverse range of issues, deal with new or unexpected situations and work under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Great sense of ownership and servicing mindset to ensure efficient and effective customer service processes.

The role location will be London and follows a Hybrid working pattern.
