Aon Graduate Apprenticeship Programme – Commercial Risk Claims 2026

Location: Glasgow

Start date: 2nd September 2026

Applications close date: 27th February 2026

Better Decisions Begin with You

Aon shapes decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world. When you join us, you’ll become empowered to make the same impact, as you explore ways of becoming a more relevant, connected and valued professional.

Commercial Risk Claims

Our Commercial Risk Claims teams help clients protect their businesses in a world increasingly exposed to new and emerging risks – from extreme weather events to the impact of AI. Aon’s claims teams support clients by:

  • Providing pre-loss support, helping them navigate potential risk scenarios
  • Delivering risk management advice and services
  • Helping clients make better-informed decisions about their risk transfer strategies

In the post-loss environment, we assist clients in presenting and managing their claims. We support them throughout the lifecycle of the claim, advocating on their behalf to help achieve the most appropriate settlement outcomes. We also assist clients with their insurance buying decisions, aiming to optimise the balance between risk transfer and risk retention through detailed valuation and analysis. This enables a tailored approach to risk transfer, supported by our extensive risk management capabilities.

Aon Claims provide a wide range of services which encompass all of Aon Commercial Risk offerings. Further information on our service offerings via this link - Claims Management.

Your role as a Commercial Risk Claims Graduate Apprentice

You will join as a Claims Support Specialist, playing a key role in supporting clients throughout the claims process, helping the team manage expectations, and delivering great outcomes for our clients. You will:

  • Be embedded within the UK Commercial Risk Claims team
  • Be supported by colleagues across all areas of UK Claims
  • Gain exposure to the different business areas we support across the UK

Some of your colleagues will have previously completed the Aon Apprenticeship Programme, while others will bring many years of experience in the insurance market – all committed to supporting your development through coaching and on-the-job learning.

Prepare to make an immediate impact. Our structured training programme will build your knowledge of Aon’s claims proposition and commercial insurance, while supporting you through your qualification.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will be supported to:

  • Develop your professional and technical skills
  • Build meaningful relationships with colleagues, insurers and clients
  • Lay strong foundations for your future career progression
Your Development

As an Aon Graduate Apprentice you will be enrolled onto our development programme when you join. This programme is built around 3 core elements:

  • Business learning – on the job learning and experiences giving you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding of the team and solution line you have joined
  • Centralised learning – UK apprentices complete in an Aon Induction, monthly webinars, business skills training and workshops; all designed to help you develop your knowledge of Aon, build your confidence and your network across our business
  • Professional Qualifications – we want you to be as successful as possible, so we’ll fully support your study towards your MA (Hons) Business Management for Financial Services Graduate Apprenticeship through Heriot-Watt University. To support you as you study for your exams, you’ll receive paid study leave, plus an extensive range of study and tuition materials.

The objective of the 4-year degree is to develop general management knowledge and skills in the context of contemporary financial services organisations. The programme is structured so that essential foundational knowledge is provided in the early stages, and this can be built on during the learning that will take place in the workplace. The programme consists of 20% academic learning (one day per week) on campus or virtual, and 80% work-based learning at the Aon Glasgow office, with some exposure to the wider Aon office network.

Heriot-Watt University is a globally recognised institution with a strong heritage of working in partnership with industry. Founded in 1821, the University is a leader in work-based learning and delivers Graduate Apprenticeships that combine academic excellence with real-world business application, supporting employers to develop future-ready talent.

Building Relationships

With Aon business leaders playing an active role in our development, you're encouraged to make the most of every networking opportunity open to you. The early relationships you build will include:

  • Your Apprentice network – you'll meet Apprentices from all areas of Aon in the UK, helping you navigate our business and grow a support network from day one.
  • Your mentor – an experienced colleague who can help you out with career guidance, specific issues or any general thoughts or queries you have.
  • Business seniors – many experienced colleagues will be actively interested and involved in your development.
  • The Early Careers Team – here to help smooth the way, open doors and advise you on developing your knowledge, skills and prospects.
Your career beyond your Graduate Apprenticeship

When you join the Graduate Apprenticeship Programme at Aon, you become a permanent member of our team from day one. As you develop, the work you do will evolve and grow in responsibility, supporting your long‑term career progression. You will also have clear opportunities for advancement during your apprenticeship; colleagues typically receive their first promotion 18 to 24 months into their role, with further progression based on performance. Within our Commercial Risk business, you’ll find an exciting environment where you can learn, grow and be continually challenged throughout your career.

Next Steps

If you are interested in this apprenticeship programme and would like to apply, here are some things to help you:

Entry Requirements:

  • SQA Highers at BBBB (over two sittings)
  • A-Levels at BBC
  • International Baccalaureate 29 points
  • SQA HNC in a relevant subject (or a suitable Modern Apprenticeship) with B in the graded unit
  • Foundation Apprenticeship in Business Skills in conjunction with other suitable qualifications, such as SQA Highers at BBB
  • A combination of qualifications totalling 96 SCQF credits at level 6, or Minimum 108 UCAS points

To be eligible for this Graduate Apprenticeship, you must also meet the Scottish Government’s funding eligibility criteria which includes:

  • Currently residing in Scotland
  • Have lived in the UK for at least three years prior to the course start date
  • Not already hold a qualification at the same or higher level than the one being offered

What are we looking for?

  • Motivation and ambition – you will need to be able to articulate why you want a career in commercial risk
  • Commercial awareness – this helps us to provide support and advice to our clients with clarity and confidence
  • Passion and curiosity - understand the value of and be passionate about delivering excellent Client Service
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt your style for different groups of people

We recognise the value for our Early Career colleagues of being in the office environment from the beginning of their programme. As a new apprentice, you will spend the first 6 months based in the office to support your learning, development, and progression. This will enable you access to support from managers, collaborate with colleagues as well as grow your network across Aon. After completing this initial training period, you will then have the opportunity to work more flexibly, spending at least 3 to 4 days face to face in the Aon office or with clients.

Right to Work

Our apprentices are on permanent contracts from day one. We welcome applications from candidates who have their own right to work within the UK where you can maintain and demonstrate your right to work throughout the duration of your employment. This may include pre-settled or settled status from the EU Settlement Scheme – or if you have applied and you are waiting for a decision.

Aon UK Apprentice Recruitment: What to Expect

We know applying for your first apprentice role can be exciting, and sometimes a little daunting. Here’s how our selection journey works, and what you can expect at each stage:

  • Application Review
    • We process applications on a rolling basis, moving candidates forward as they complete each stage.
    • Every application is carefully reviewed by our team (not by AI).
    • Due to the high volume of interest, this stage can take up to two weeks.
    • Please note: We do not review CVs or cover letters at this point.
  • Video Interview
    • Preparation matters, so you’ll have up to 10 days (240 hours) from receiving your invitation to record and submit your video interview.
    • Rest assured: Every video interview is reviewed by a real member of our recruitment team, not an AI system.
    • You’ll typically hear back from us within 2-3 weeks after submitting your interview, though times may vary depending on the number of applications.
  • Assessment Centres
    • Our assessment centres are held in person at the Aon office closest to the location you applied for.
    • Please note: Due to the large number of applications, not every candidate who completes a video interview will be invited to an assessment centre.
    • If selected, you’ll have 7-14 days’ notice to help you arrange any travel.
    • We run a limited number of Assessment Centre so please make every effort to attend if invited. These will begin in February/March 2026.
    • We reimburse reasonable travel costs (such as standard class train tickets). Flights and hotels are only covered if agreed in advance.
    • At the assessment centre stage, your CV and cover letter will be shared with hiring managers. This helps them get a fuller picture of you as a candidate—but these documents are not used for initial screening.

We’re here to support you every step of the way. If you have any questions or need accommodations, just reach out to our team. Good luck and we look forward to seeing what you can bring to Aon!

How we support our colleagues

In addition to our comprehensive benefits package, we encourage a diverse workforce. Plus, our agile, inclusive environment allows you to manage your wellbeing and work/life balance, ensuring you can be your best self at Aon. Furthermore, all colleagues enjoy two “Global Wellbeing Days” each year, encouraging you to take time to focus on yourself.

Our continuous learning culture inspires and equips you to learn, share and grow, helping you achieve your fullest potential. As a result, at Aon, you are more connected, more relevant, and more valued.

Aon values an innovative, diverse workplace where all colleagues feel empowered to be their authentic selves. Aon provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran, marital, domestic partner status, or other legally protected status.

We provide individuals with disabilities reasonable accommodations to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment in accordance with applicable law. If you require any reasonable accommodations or adjustments, please contact apprentices@aon.co.uk and a member of the UK Early Careers team will contact you.
