Job description
Overview

This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, rapidly changing neurology service in a regional neuroscience centre, based in a diverse and attractive city. Your role will be key in delivering high quality, accessible care for people with acute and long-term neurological illness.

This post includes a requirement for out of hours working, providing middle-grade cover for Neurology and Stroke (including Thrombolysis and Thrombectomy).

This is a 12 month Fixed Term post. This post offers an excellent opportunity to gain ST3 level and above experience within the rapidly changing field of Neurology medicine at NBT, a busy tertiary neuroscience centre.

Responsibilities
  • As part of a consultant led team you will see a wide range of cases.
  • Lead a team of junior doctors (CT/IM/F1/F2) on ward rounds and supervise them on the ward and in ED.
  • Participate in research and recruit for national trials; contribute to projects or develop your own ideas.
  • Rotate to sub specialist areas of stroke neurology and general neurology depending on registrar numbers.
  • Help redesign how acute neurology care is accessed with the aim of improving outcomes for patients at the regional hub in Southmead.
  • Engage in a mix of AMU in-reach, ward liaison, hot clinic/same day emergency care, ward work and neurology outpatient clinics.
  • Pursue a sub-specialist interest with a job plan adapted to allow at least one specialist clinic per week.
Department and setting

The Department of Neurology at Southmead has a national and international reputation for excellent neurological care and research. It provides specialist neurological care to Bristol and surrounding areas and centres around four clinical teams offering high-level sub-speciality care in areas including Multiple Sclerosis and Neuro-inflammatory disorders, Peripheral Nerve Disease, Neuro-ophthalmology, Epilepsy, Movement Disorders, Cognitive Disorders, Neuromuscular diseases and neurovascular disorders including all acute stroke and stroke rehabilitation.

There is excellent neuroradiology at NBT with a weekly case review alongside daily informal interactions.

About the role and opportunities

As a post holder you will help shape access to acute neurology care at the regional hub, with opportunities to rotate and develop in sub-specialist areas of stroke neurology and general neurology.
