Job description

This apprenticeship is the Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician standard programme with Keltruck in Cheltenham, GL51 0TT. The right candidate will work alongside Scania's qualified Technicians to receive extensive training in maintaining HGVs. Ready to kick start your career as a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Technician? Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to earn while you learn and have all your training expenses covered? Scania's apprenticeship programme has been designed with you in mind.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out the basic tasks with tools and equipment common to all procedures involving basic mechanical and electrical procedures related to HV.
  • The ability to keep updated with emerging new technologies within the HV industry.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop and adhere to the company and legislative processes.
  • Access specific and related HV technical information appropriately.
  • The ability to service, inspect and maintain HVs and trailers to meet company, Driver and vehicle standards agency (DVSA) and manufacturers' standards.
  • Use a range of diagnostic and electrical measuring equipment to identify faults and underlying causes on HV's.
  • Successfully inspect and prepare vehicles and trailers to meet DVSA standards prescribed in the tester's manual.
  • Carry out final quality checks before handover to the customer without supervision.
  • Apply advanced diagnostic principles and logical/problem solving techniques and regimes.
  • Maintain records to company and operators' licence obligations and regulation.
  • To be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written mediums both internally and with customers on a range of topics that will support, HV inspection and diagnosing techniques.

During your heavy vehicle apprenticeship programme, you will be required to attend Scania's state-of-the-art training academy, the biggest automotive training facility in the UK. You will visit the training academy for 18 separate weeks (Monday – Friday) over the duration of the 32‑month programme. All travel expenses to and from the academy, together with the costs of the hotel accommodation, are paid for by the employer.

As Scania's dedicated training partner, Remit will deliver comprehensive training to all apprentices periodically throughout the programme. During these training sessions, your Development Coach will review your progress, set SMART targets, and identify any additional support that you may require.

  • IRTEC accreditation.

  • Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
