The role

As a Safety Case Engineer Weapons, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will help develop and maintain robust safety cases across critical domains – nuclear reactor plant, nuclear weapons, and ordnance, munitions and explosives – so operations remain safe, compliant and mission‑ready. It is meaningful, high‑impact work that supports national defence and gives you wide exposure to complex engineering, regulatory compliance and risk management – accelerating your development in a unique, high‑hazard environment.

Day-to-day you’ll be required to:

  • Develop clear, evidence‑based safety cases and professional engineering reports across the three safety domains.
  • Maintain compliance with site authorisation conditions and relevant regulations, ensuring operations meet safety case methodologies.
  • Collaborate with facility operators and key partners to assure nuclear safety across programmes.
  • Engage with the Ministry of Defence customer and stakeholders to explain complex issues in plain, accessible language.
  • Improve safe systems of work and lead insightful risk assessments that drive ALARP decisions.

This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday 07:15 – 16:45 and provides hybrid working arrangements.

Essential experience of the Safety Case Engineer Weapons
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering process in a regulated environment.
  • Experience producing and reviewing professional engineering reports.
  • Knowledge of safety case methodologies and practical application.
  • Ability to explain complex issues to varied technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Practical experience with safe systems of work and risk assessments.
Qualifications for the Safety Case Engineer Weapons
  • HNC/HND in Engineering or a relevant STEM degree.
  • Professional registration with an appropriate institution (or working towards it).
  • Postgraduate study or training in safety engineering, risk management or related discipline would be advantageous

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance for this role.
