Job description

Are you a hands‑on engineer with a passion for hydraulics? Do you enjoy seeing projects through from design to commissioning? Looking for a role where every system is bespoke, high‑value, and technically challenging? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Hydraulic Engineer to join a dynamic engineering organisation specialising in the design and manufacture of high‑performance servo‑hydraulic test and motion simulation systems. The successful candidate will work across the full lifecycle of bespoke hydraulic projects — from concept and design through build, testing, commissioning, and customer training.

This is a hands‑on position offering exposure to low‑volume, high‑value engineered solutions, serving customers across aerospace, automotive, defence and industrial markets worldwide. The role combines workshop‑based engineering with field installation and commissioning, making it ideal for someone who enjoys practical technical challenges and direct customer interaction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and support hydraulic system projects throughout design, build, test and commissioning phases
  • Perform in‑house and on‑site installation, calibration, commissioning and fault‑finding
  • Act as a technical interface during site deployment, ensuring successful project delivery
  • Prepare documentation including risk assessments, method statements, installation plans and calibration reports
  • Conduct in‑house performance testing, issue certification and ensure compliance with specifications
  • Provide end‑user training and ongoing technical support following installation
  • Work collaboratively with mechanical, electrical, controls and production teams to resolve technical issues
  • Ensure compliance with ISO9000, Machinery Directive standards and Health & Safety requirements
  • Participate in design reviews and project close‑out meetings to support continuous improvement
  • Deliver maintenance and service support, remotely and on customer sites
Experience & Skills Required:
  • Minimum 3 years' experience working with hydraulic systems in an engineering, testing or manufacturing environment
  • HND or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic principles with hands‑on experience in troubleshooting and calibration
  • Experience in servo control systems, instrumentation, or industrial automation advantageous
  • Exposure to low‑volume, high‑value engineering projects preferred
  • Clear communicator, confident working directly with customers
  • Willingness to undertake UK and international travel
  • Additional hydraulic training or certification beneficial
