Job Purpose

In pursuance of the direction of the Defence Council made under the Reserve Forces Act 1996 the Reserve Forces (Call Out and Recall) (Exemptions etc) Regulations 1997 and the Reserve Forces (Call Out and Recall)(Financial Assistance) Regulations 2005 the Reserve Forces (Payments to Employers and Partners) Regulations 2014 and the Reserve Forces (Call-out and Recall)(Financial Assistance (Amendment) Regulations 2015 appointed by CNP&T/2SL to act as an Adjudication Officer (Royal Navy Royal Fleet Reserve Royal Navy Reserve and Royal Marines) for the purposes of determining all applications and claims made under the said Act and Regulations and where applicable discharging the requirements of the Reserve Forces Appeal Tribunal Rules 1997.

Secondary Purposes
  • To instigate investigations into potential irregularities.
  • Maintenance of communication with Reservists and their employers concerning claims for financial assistance including logging of archive material.
  • Maintenance of contact with the other Service Adjudication Services as appropriate.
  • Manage requests for financial reimbursement from Reservists and employers highlighting cost implications to relevant stakeholders as required whilst seeking to continuously improve ways to deliver outputs.
  • Manage individual litigation arising from Reserve Forces Appeal Tribunals in a way that safeguards Naval Service interests including reputation and cost.
  • To liaise with Government Legal Department and Counsel to ensure timely and appropriate information is provided in relation to Reserve Force Appeal Tribunal proceedings.
  • Maintenance of contact with CMR and NPT Reserves with special attention to potential mobilisation issues.
  • To maintain functional liaison with DACOS Casework to permit governance and oversight functions to the Maritime Reserve Mobilisation Adjudication and Appeals processes.
  • To invest any spare capacity into the delivery of Personnel casework.
  • To ensure all Augmentee AO staff are correctly trained and their currency is maintained through a familiarisation programme.
Responsibilities
  • To make determinations regarding claims by reservists within the bounds of the current statutory regulations. (50%)
  • To make determinations regarding claims by employers within the bounds of the current statutory regulations. (10%)
  • To act as 1RO to the Reserve Adjudication Assistant CPOWTR. (20%)
  • To oversee the management and administration of the Adjudication Team and the associated processes. (20%)
