We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our Water Production team to work out of our Water Treatment Works in Cleeve, RG8 0BY.

As a successful candidate, you will using your mechanical & electrical knowledge as well as your experience to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair as appropriate, mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment, in a safe efficient timely and effective manner with minimum supervision allowing us to ensure that all of our sites remain operational for the benefits of our customers.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water's environmental impact, and you will be actively helping to reduce pollution from our sites.

Responsibilities
  • Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns.
  • You will investigate plant failures and carry out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents.
  • Examples of equipment that you will be working on will be various pumps and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSD’s, automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling and dosing equipment.
  • Participate in a standby rota following the relevant training.

Base Location: Cleeve - RG8 0BY.

Working Pattern: 38 Hours per week, Monday- Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm, plus Standby rota payments & Overtime opportunities can increase the earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.

Company Van, Fuel card (company use only), PPE and all Tools are also provided.

You must be a time-served apprentice with an NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical and electrical qualifications.

Qualifications
  • To be a time-served apprentice with an NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical and electrical qualifications.
  • Experience working on large industrial plant equipment, including various pumps within the utilities industry, would be beneficial. Would suit mechanical maintenance/service engineers or mechanics from any industry.
  • 18 th Edition would be beneficial, but not a requirement; one must be willing to obtain it during probation.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are essential.
  • The work will require physical fitness as you will work in manual handling and often in physically demanding roles.
  • Be able to work in restricted areas.
  • A valid driving licence is essential, and all necessary equipment, such as tools, is provided.
