Job description

Maintenance Engineering Planner
Location: Mells, Somerset & Newport, South Wales
Competitive salary plus benefits

Marshalls plc is the UK's leading hard landscaping, building and roofing products supplier and has supplied some of the most prestigious landmarks in the UK since the 1890s. We've held a Superbrand status since 2010, and we're a successful FTSE 250. Every step we take and every product we make is geared towards making the world around us a better place to live.

We are recruiting a Maintenance Engineering Planner to support both our Mells and Newport sites. This is a dual-site role, typically based three days per week at Mells and two days per week at Newport. The Planner is a core part of the site's maintenance and operations process, contributing to daily reviews, weekly planning and a two-week look-ahead.

So what's the mission?

You will run the site's maintenance planning cycle and act as the control point between Engineering, Operations and Stores. Your main focus is to keep the weekly plan safe, realistic and compliant. That includes prioritising statutory and safety-critical tasks, planning jobs to the correct standard and aligning labour, materials and permits so work can be completed on time.

A key part of the role is supporting the site's reliability programme. You will use downtime data and repeat-failure trends to feed actions into PM reviews, RCM-style decision making and root cause analysis. You will also coordinate shutdowns and contractor work, maintain accurate CMMS data, track plan compliance and audit completed work orders to ensure the right information and statutory records are in place.

You will work with Microsoft AX as our CMMS. Newport is entering a formal RCM programme in 2026, and Mells has active condition-based monitoring supported by the SEM. The Planner will therefore be directly involved in reliability work including PM optimisation, FMEA support, CBM follow-up actions and turning downtime trends into structured improvements.

A strong Planner gives structure, discipline and stability to the maintenance function. That is exactly what this role provides.

Responsibilities
  • Time-served apprentice in mechanical or electrical engineering
  • Experience in a maintenance planning role within manufacturing or heavy industry
  • Strong CMMS capability and confident with data; Excel essential, Power BI useful
  • Understanding of RCM, FMEA, CBM or other reliability tools, or willingness to learn
  • Strong organisational discipline and accurate record-keeping
  • Able to work with engineers, operators, contractors and managers and keep everyone aligned
  • Comfortable challenging decisions when safety or compliance is at risk
  • Practical, detail-driven and focused on improving uptime and planning discipline
Benefits
  • 34 days per year including bank holidays
  • Guaranteed Christmas holidays
  • Development and training opportunities
  • Health care cash plan
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay
  • 5% employer-matched pension scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Employee discount on Marshalls and Marley products
  • Retailer discounts
  • Marshalls Wellbeing Centre
  • Share purchase scheme
  • Life assurance
