Overview

GMP Recruitment are proud to be in partnership with a long-established and reputable manufacturing firm based in the Birmingham area. We are currently recruiting on their behalf for an experienced Machine Tool Engineer to join their Maintenance Department on a full-time, permanent basis.

This position offers a starting salary of up to £35,000 per annum, working hours of 10am - 6pm, Monday to Friday. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a secure and progressive environment focused on reliability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Our client operates a busy and growing site with a wide range of heavy industrial plant, equipment, and infrastructure. They are seeking a proactive and technically strong individual to help improve plant reliability, reduce downtime, and ensure maintenance activities are carried out to the highest standards.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on plant, equipment, and buildings.
• Work proactively on improving plant reliability, supporting planned maintenance schedules, and assisting with the implementation and updating of the CMMS.
• Read and interpret mechanical and electrical engineering drawings.
• Ensure all tools and equipment are maintained in a clean, complete, and safe condition in line with company and quality standards.
• Provide leadership, training, and guidance to apprentices and operational staff.
• Ensure compliance with company safety policies and practices.
• Accurately and promptly process all paperwork in accordance with company policy.
• Undertake installation, commissioning, and service duties on-site when required.
• Monitor part deliveries and ensure quality standards are met.
• Work closely with managers, engineers, and fitters across departments as needed.
• Carry out fitting and assembly of machine parts to engineering drawings.
• Support quality functions to drive out errors, reduce scrap, and improve performance.
• Undertake any other duties as required to support the Maintenance Management Team.

Required skills and experience

• Strong engineering background with proven experience in heavy plant equipment.
• Time-served apprentice with relevant heavy industrial experience.
• Level 3 BTEC or equivalent qualification in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (mechanical and electrical).
• Proven experience in reducing machine downtime and supporting maintenance system updates (CMMS).
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively at all levels.
