Qualifications

  • 10+ years of overall engineering experience, including 7+ years in lifting and rigging.
  • Proficient in creating heavy and complex lifting/rigging drawings in AutoCAD.
  • Experience managing crews of 200-300 personnel in multi-cultural environments.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit lifting plans and method statements for client approval.
  • Supervise third-party inspections of cranes and lifting equipment.
  • Mentor rigging supervisors and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Position Title: Lifting Engineer

Location: Qatar

Position Overview:

The Lifting Engineer is responsible for planning, supervising, and executing all lifting and rigging activities for major projects, ensuring compliance with safety standards, project requirements, and client specifications. The role includes preparation of lifting plans, coordination of heavy lifts, equipment selection, and oversight of multi-disciplinary lifting teams.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent (Shell Lifting Department approval may be required for alternative experience)
  • Fluent in English (IELTS 8 equivalent)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and AutoCAD

Minimum Experience:

  • 10+ years of overall engineering experience, including 7+ years in lifting and rigging within the Oil & Gas industry
  • 2+ years' experience creating heavy and complex lifting/rigging drawings in AutoCAD
  • Hands‑on experience as a rigger, supervisor, coordinator, or rigging engineer
  • Experience in offshore jacket/topside/riser tower fabrication, installation, or major plant turnarounds
  • Supervisory experience managing crews of 200‑300 personnel in multi‑cultural environments

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Expert knowledge of lifting equipment and crane types (mobile, overhead, gantry, boom trucks, jacking/skating, chain blocks, tirfors, forklifts, man‑lifts)
  • Strong understanding of rigging principles and heavy lift execution
  • Ability to develop AutoCAD lifting plans for critical, routine, and non‑routine lifts
  • Knowledge of lifting standards applicable to Qatar and turnaround projects
  • Experience in lifting equipment selection, inspection, testing, and devaluation calculations
  • Knowledge of HSE requirements and ability to enforce safe lifting practices
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and team‑coordination skills

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit lifting plans, method statements, rigging studies, and heavy/critical lift packages for client approval
  • Assess, plan, and execute lifting operations on site in compliance with company standards and HSE policies
  • Verify lifting equipment requirements, ensure procurement, and confirm all equipment meets required standards
  • Supervise third‑party inspections of contractor‑owned or hired cranes and lifting equipment
  • Monitor ongoing lifting operations to ensure compliance with industry best practices and legislative requirements
  • Mentor and train rigging supervisors, foremen, and riggers
  • Participate in internal audits, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives related to lifting operations
  • Maintain systematic and methodical control of all lifting activities to ensure safety‑critical elements are met

Additional Notes:

  • Knowledge of heavy rigging for critical lifts is required
  • Offshore and onshore project experience preferred
