We are seeking an experienced Commodity Lawyer with 5+ years of strong legal experience in the commodities space, specifically in commodity trade finance, contractual structuring, and risk mitigation instruments. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in commodity trading, preferably with a leading global commodity house or trading firm.

Key Responsibilities:-

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commodity trading agreements, including:
  • Offtake Agreements
  • Storage and Tolling Agreements
  • Shipping Contracts and Marine Insurance
  • Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs)
  • Provide legal advice on commodity trade finance structures, including letters of credit, performance guarantees, and credit facilities.
  • Advise on credit insurance policies, marine insurance, and other risk mitigation tools.
  • Work closely with traders, risk teams, compliance, and finance to ensure deals are legally sound and commercially viable.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory changes and implications affecting international commodity trading.
  • Support and manage external counsel as required in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Assist in handling disputes or claims relating to commodity contracts or logistics.

Key Requirements:

  • LLB or equivalent legal qualification from a recognized institution; UK legal qualification preferred.
  • 5+ years of post-qualification experience, with a strong focus on commodity trade finance and contract law.
  • In-depth knowledge of:
  • Commodities contracts (physical and derivatives)
  • Marine and credit insurance
  • International trade and financing mechanisms
  • Prior in-house experience with a commodity major or trading house strongly preferred.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and drafting skills.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, international, and multicultural environment.
