Job summary

A leading recruitment agency is seeking an experienced Laser Operator to work in a fabrication team in Keighley. The successful candidate will operate laser cutting machinery, ensuring accuracy and quality in processing sheet metal components. Responsibilities include setting up machines, conducting quality checks, and managing stock control. Ideal candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant experience and be competent in using overhead cranes and forklift trucks. This role offers a shift from Monday to Friday, 6:00 am to 2:15 pm.

Qualifications

Overview

Role: Laser Operator

Location: Keighley

Shift: Monday – Friday: 6:00am – 2:15pm

Salary: £33,780.96

Role Summary

We are looking for an experienced Laser Operator to join our Fabrication team, working on the processing of sheet metal components to the highest standards of accuracy and quality. In this role, you will be responsible for loading, programming, and operating laser cutting machinery, inspecting materials, managing stock control, and ensuring all processed parts conform to engineering drawings and production requirements.

As a Laser Operator, you will play a key part in the manufacturing workflow by producing clean, accurate, and dimensionally correct components ready for downstream fabrication. You will work independently and as part of a wider manufacturing team, maintaining high levels of safety, quality, and efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Import and load the required cutting programs into the laser machine.
  • Create production plans detailing program numbers and required sheet quantities.
  • Locate and inspect sheet metal materials, ensuring they meet quality standards and are free from defects.
  • Set up the laser for the appropriate cutting operation, following all safety and quality procedures.
  • Load raw materials, unload finished parts, and remove scrap and waste material from the machine.
  • Conduct quality checks on finished components to ensure conformity with drawings and required finish standards.
  • Correct or resolve any non-conforming components.
  • Identify, log, and book finished parts into the stock management system.
  • Store completed items in designated locations in line with management instruction.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards and complete daily asset care checks on laser equipment.
  • Achieve production targets and ensure all work meets agreed timescales.
  • Safely move sheet metal and cut components using overhead cranes, lifting tools, or forklift trucks.
  • Follow safe systems of work, standard operating procedures, and all company H&S requirements.
  • Carry out additional duties consistent with the level of the role as required by the needs of the business.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience operating a laser cutter or CNC punch.
  • Engineering apprenticeship or Level 2 / 3 qualification (desirable).
  • Experience setting up laser production plans.
  • Competent operating overhead cranes and forklift trucks.
  • Good understanding of health & safety requirements and safe working practices.
  • Knowledge of quality standards and conformance requirements.
  • Familiarity with stock management systems (desirable).
