Main Purpose of the Job

As the Interim Head of Corporate Parenting, you are wholly responsible for delivering strong and effective social work and corporate parenting services to children and families across Southend. You will strategically manage the Allan Cole Centre to ensure effective family time for children in care.

What you will do
  • Develop and maintain services that meet the needs of children who may suffer significant harm, ensuring they are carefully investigated and appropriately responded to.
  • Collaborate with other Heads of Service while taking full responsibility for outcomes within your area.
  • Ensure the social, emotional, and educational needs of all children in care are met, leading to improved outcomes for Looked After Children and Care Leavers.
  • Lead effective multi-agency and partnership working to protect children.
  • Guarantee that the Authority fulfills its legal, regulatory, and national standards in meeting the needs of vulnerable individuals and groups.
  • Act as the strategic lead for Looked After Children, Care Leavers, Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children, and drive forward permanency and Corporate Parenting arrangements.
Requirements
  • A Social Work Degree and registration with Social Work England.
  • Expert knowledge of working with vulnerable children and understanding relevant legislation.
  • Experienced in strategies to reduce social exclusion and anti-social behaviour.
  • Strong comprehension of the political context in local government.
  • Highly skilled in partnership work at a senior level, with significant experience in driving service improvement.
  • Specialist knowledge and substantial experience in managing local delivery teams.
