Role : Infrastructure Design Engineer

Reporting to : Head of Professional Services

Location : London (Hybrid)

We're supporting one of the top Managed Service Providers in Europe for 2025, delivering managed IT services to UK and global clients around the clock. They provide enterprise‑grade support, security, and consulting services to mid‑sized and growing businesses across sectors including property, retail, finance, and healthcare.

The Role

The Project Engineer role sits within a dynamic delivery team responsible for understanding client requirements, planning solutions, and delivering successful projects. While we standardise core technologies, our varied client base means exposure to a wide range of systems and vendors. The role involves contributing to the full project lifecycle while maintaining high standards of quality and profitability.

The role encourages engineers to propose improvements, suggest automation opportunities, and contribute new ideas to enhance our services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a technical resource across the full lifecycle of internal and client projects including design, implementation, testing, documentation, and handover.
  • Technically approve installations, upgrades, and change requests, ensuring robust implementation, testing, and contingency planning.
  • Provide regular progress updates to Project Managers and key stakeholders.
  • Create high‑quality technical documentation including designs, plans, proposals, and handover guides.
  • Provide technical pre‑sales support when required, including proposals and presentations.
  • Review and approve sales proposals to ensure technical alignment and adherence to standards.
  • Ensure proposed solutions are robust, cost‑effective, and properly risk‑assessed.
  • Recommend new technologies for consideration by the Technical Director.
  • Understand product roadmaps across the full portfolio.
  • Maintain relevant supplier accreditations as agreed.
  • Follow the Change Control process.
  • Accurately log all billable time in ConnectWise.
  • Perform audits of client environments and prepare supporting reports.
  • Act as a mentor to junior staff to support their development.
Technical Knowledge & Skills

Required :

  • Strong experience with VMware (VCP preferred).
  • Experience migrating workloads to Office 365 and Azure.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft cloud security including MFA, Intune, security and compliance, and email security.
  • Deep knowledge across the Microsoft stack including Server 2008–2022, AD, DNS, DHCP, SQL, and server migrations.
  • Strong networking fundamentals including routing, VPNs, and experience with multi‑vendor hardware.
  • Strong knowledge of backup technologies, DR, and bare‑metal recovery.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft 365 including migrations, Intune, AIP, Azure AD Join, AD Connect, SharePoint Online, DLP, and MDM.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis skills.

Desirable :

  • Experience with AWS or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with VDI, AVD, Citrix, or Terminal Services.
  • Strong storage knowledge including SAN, NAS, and iSCSI.
  • PowerShell scripting.
  • Network certifications such as CCNA or Network+.
  • Experience with automation platforms such as Puppet, Ansible, or Salt.
  • Knowledge of cloud‑based telephony such as 3CX or Teams.
  • Good understanding of Linux.
