Job description

They say honesty is the best policy. But not every firm gets the memo.

Whether it’s promises of clients that don't exist, promises of support that isn’t there, or OTE figures seemingly plucked out of thin air, it’s hard to trust a company when what they’ve told you at interview doesn’t match up with reality.

This business is different.

Clients? They have them. Lots of them. They have a retiring IFA in Surrey who needs to be replaced. There’s £222,000 of ongoing fees to inherit, with no validation required, plus a 15% production bonus.

And you’ll be able to advise them on an independent basis, which is increasingly rare nowadays.

Income? You’ll walk into at least £33,000 of bonus due to the ongoing fees. There’s a 95% client retention rate during transitions (this will be transition 13). You’ll earn 15% on all new business and 15% as you grow ongoing. Additionally, there’s a company bonus (typically 4%) and a £3,600 car allowance.

While the starting salary is £52,000, the overall package effectively places your earnings at around £90,000, excluding any initial or new business.

It’s also worth noting that this is a "starting salary." The firm has introduced pathways to move into a "senior" role, which comes with a higher salary.

Support? You’ll have someone to handle valuations, schedule meetings, and manage reviews. There’s also support for all queries related to their client system. Paraplanning support isn’t standard yet, but they’ve recently hired their first paraplanner and plan to grow this team.

The firm recognizes they’re not perfect, but they invest in improving by bolstering their compliance and T&C functions, customer service, and paraplanning team.

People here are great, and you’ll find that out during the interview.

Alongside the support mentioned, you’ll have a dedicated manager who is approachable yet unobtrusive. There’s a comprehensive induction (expensed), a proper handover from the outgoing planner, and although you’ll work remotely, you won’t feel isolated.

Benefits:

  • Monthly mileage claims for client visits, at 0.19p per mile
  • Company mobile phone and laptop
  • 33 days holiday (including bank holidays)
  • Paid Christmas shutdown (typically 3 days between Boxing Day and New Year’s), not deducted from holiday allowance
  • Enhanced bereavement leave policy
  • Death in Service benefit: 3x salary or £100k, whichever is greater
  • Profit share scheme (discretionary, last 2 years averaging 4% of basic salary)
  • UNUM wellbeing app offering discounts at retailers like M&S, Sainsbury’s, and access for family to GP appointments, legal advice, and counselling

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

You should be a level 4 qualified financial planner (IFA or restricted). You’ll need CAS and at least 2 years of advising experience.

You’ll thrive in an environment where you’re empowered, a self-starter with solid technical knowledge, especially in pensions and investments.
