About the Team

We’re looking for motivated individuals to join Community Works, Lambeth Council’s in‑house Direct Labour Organisation (DLO). Our team delivers essential maintenance, repairs and improvement projects that make a real difference in our local communities.

If you’re passionate about providing high‑quality services, take pride in your work and want to help keep Lambeth’s neighbourhoods safe and well‑maintained, we’d love to hear from you.

About the Role

We offer a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to join Lambeth Council’s Community Works DLO as an FRA Multi‑Trade Operative, carrying out Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) remedial repairs across our housing stock.

As part of a multi‑disciplined team you will deliver high‑quality, FRA‑compliant repairs within set cost, quality and safety parameters, ensuring all remedial work meets BM Trada standards and current fire‑safety regulations. Working closely with the FRA Supervisor, Manager and Planners, you will be responsible for completing multi‑trade remedial work efficiently and to a “right first time” standard, using handheld devices to manage and prioritise work orders.

Applicants must hold an NVQ Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in Carpentry or another core trade, with demonstrable additional skills in at least one other trade discipline.

The role involves travelling between sites across the borough; therefore, a full UK driving licence (manual) is essential.

Successful candidates will also be required to complete BM Trada fire‑door installation and maintenance training – an initial two‑day course followed by approximately nine months of site‑based assessments.

In addition to a competitive salary we offer a wide range of employee benefits. Please note that Lambeth Council operates an anonymised application process; ensure your CV or personal statement does not include personal details but instead features your unique application number.

To be considered for interview, your CV and supporting statement will clearly evidence:

  • The ability to carry out all types of FRA‑compliant repairs and maintenance works, both internally and externally.
  • A proven track record of internal and external repairs, maintenance installations and remedial works that meet customer satisfaction.
  • A clear understanding of health & safety, legal and regulatory standards, maintaining compliance and best practice.
  • Effective planning and organisation of workloads, ensuring efficient use of time, materials, transport and equipment to meet response targets.
  • Competence in using PDAs or other systems to receive instructions, record completed work and manage materials.
  • Ability to maintain vehicle stock levels to support first‑fix completion and uphold vehicle care and safety standards.
  • Professional communication with customers, colleagues and supervisors, taking ownership of each repair and providing clear updates.
  • Strong relationship‑building skills with residents, stakeholders and contractors to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Willingness to participate in training and development to maintain skills and support flexible, multi‑trade working.
  • Holding an NVQ Level 2 qualification in a core trade (Carpentry or Plumbing) with additional skills in at least one other trade (e.g. Drainage, Groundwork, Glazing, Plastering, Bricklaying or Painting).
  • A full UK driving licence (manual) is essential for this role.

Successful candidates will be asked to apply for an Enhanced Certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Further information about the DBS can be found at www.homeoffice.gov.uk/agencies-public-bodies/dbs.
