Job summary

A well-established civil engineering contractor in Wakefield seeks an experienced Estimator. You will prepare cost estimates for projects up to £10m and ensure competitiveness through thorough analysis of tender opportunities. Ideal candidates have at least 5 years of experience in Civils estimating, strong communication skills, and a relevant qualification in Civil Engineering. As an Estimator, you will deliver accurate and timely cost estimates for civil engineering schemes up to £10m, ensuring competitiveness and alignment with company objectives. Key responsibilities include analysing tender opportunities, preparing and presenting management information, and submitting detailed tenders within operational guidelines. You will contribute to workload and client feedback reviews to improve tender success, maintaining effective communication with colleagues and clients while ensuring compliance with health and safety, equality, and confidentiality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare accurate and timely estimates for projects up to £10m in line with company procedures.
  • Analyse tender opportunities and provide clear cost, resource, and productivity insights to ensure competitiveness.
  • Support workload reviews and client feedback sessions to improve future tender performance.
  • Produce and present clear management information and competitive tender submissions.
  • Build strong relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders to ensure effective communication.
  • Comply with all health, safety, equality, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Take part in performance reviews, personal development, and any other reasonable duties as required.
Job Requirements
  • Preferably from a site operational background - Engineering/Management.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a Civils Estimating role
  • Experience using Conquest estimating software
  • Experience using MS Project/Primavera P6
  • Familiar with NEC contract
  • Understanding commercial, contractual and procurement processes
  • HNC/Degree qualification in Civil Engineering or similar equivalent.
  • Good people skills with the ability to contribute to the success of a team is essential.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, planning and time management skills.
