The Team

The Estates Directorate manages and develops the University’s campuses to provide safe, high-quality and sustainable environments. We plan and deliver capital and refurbishment projects, support space planning and timetabling needs and ensure buildings are well maintained and compliant. Working closely with academic and professional services teams, we deliver user-focused projects that enhance teaching, research and student experience. Our work ensures the estate is efficient, inclusive and aligned with the University’s long-term strategic goals.

The Role

The Estates Officer will support the delivery of building projects across the University estate, ensuring that spaces are maintained, adapted and developed to meet teaching, research and student needs. Reporting to the Head of Estates, Projects and Operations they will plan and manage a portfolio of small to medium projects, including refurbishments, space alterations and minor capital works.

Working with colleagues and contractors, the post holder will ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget and to required standards, acting as the client representative on site and managing progress, risks and user requirements.

Using their construction knowledge, they will prepare tender documents and specifications, liaise with consultants and contractors and work autonomously within a small team to ensure successful project delivery.

Required Skills and Experience
  • Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience with relevant professional or vocational qualifications.
  • Competent all-round knowledge of construction and building services.
  • Experience of delivering and managing construction and refurbishment projects, working with Consultants, Specialist Suppliers and Contractors.
  • Working knowledge and competence in AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental best practice, including CDM Regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, communicating technical information to non-technical audiences.
