Estates Surveyor - North London

3‑6 month ongoing contract
£491 per day (Umbrella)
Full Time – 36 hours per week

We are currently seeking a Senior Commercial Surveyor based in North London on a contract basis within the council.

This senior role sits in our Property team which provides professional portfolio management and advice to Councillors and senior stakeholders, giving direction and assurance on all estates issues by translating Council business strategies into real‑estate related consequences.

You will represent the Council’s property interests on a variety of projects, providing professional portfolio management and advice in a wide range of settings and asset types, including property management, industrial development, retail, de‑risking and disposal of development land, delivering administrative office accommodation, and acquiring and managing land to support Haringey’s regeneration agenda.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Undertake budgeting, forecasting and financial management in respect of the property portfolio which is valued at circa £2.77bn.
  • Create robust business cases to support strategy recommendations; manage feasibility, quantify value creation and other commercial benefits appropriately tailored to departmental objectives and support progress through Programme/Investment Boards up to Cabinet approval.
  • Effectively manage the client’s property portfolio to maximise value, reduce costs, enhance long‑term value and increase returns, focusing on both financial performance and social and economic benefits.
  • Take ownership for identifying and executing value‑add opportunities and asset‑management initiatives across the assets.
  • Understand, possess knowledge and ability to follow guidelines that ensure compliance with Health and Safety at Work, Data Protection and other statutory requirements.
  • Understand and commit to promoting and implementing the Council’s Equal Opportunities policies.
  • Have knowledge and experience of using IT.
  • Undertake any other temporary responsibilities aligned with the overall purpose and grade of the role.
Knowledge, Qualification and Experience:
  • Degree in a property‑related field or Chartered Surveyor (member of RICS) or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years post‑qualified experience in a commercial property capacity in a private practice, with an occupier, Landlord, fund etc.
  • Currently working as a property professional in a private or public‑sector organisation linked to property, infrastructure or housing.
  • Used to working in a professional property team; leading on asset management, delivering advice to clients, prioritising work and always seeking ways to improve, innovate and steer surveyors within the team.
  • Educated to degree level, holding a property‑related qualification.
  • Possess a firm understanding and demonstrable track record in handling asset‑management initiatives.
  • Proficient in procuring and managing consultants such as agents, surveyors, planners, and solicitors.
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of legislative, policy and contextual framework affecting the work of the service.
