Job Purpose
To support the Design & Technology (D&T) department by preparing, maintaining, and organising materials, tools, and equipment to ensure a safe, efficient, and creative learning environment for students.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and set up materials, tools, and equipment for practical lessons across all D&T disciplines (e.g., woodwork, metalwork, electronics, textiles, food technology).
- Assist teaching staff in demonstrating and supervising the safe use of equipment and machinery.
- Maintain, service, and carry out basic repairs on machinery, hand tools, and other equipment in line with health and safety regulations.
- Monitor and maintain stock levels of materials, consumables, and equipment; place orders as required.
- Ensure all workshops, preparation rooms, and storage areas are clean, tidy, and hazard-free.
- Support students with practical activities, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Keep accurate records of equipment maintenance, COSHH assessments, and risk assessments.
- Assist in the preparation of displays, teaching aids, and resources to enhance student learning.
- Work collaboratively with staff to develop new project ideas and improve existing resources.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Practical skills and experience using D&T workshop equipment, tools, and materials.
- Strong understanding of health and safety practices within a workshop environment.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, flexible, and proactive approach to supporting teaching staff and students.
Desirable:
- Relevant qualification in Design & Technology or a related technical subject.
- Experience of working in an educational environment or supporting young people.
- Knowledge of COSHH regulations and risk assessment processes.
Working Hours
Typically term-time only, with hours aligning to the school day (exact hours negotiable). Some flexibility may be required to support after-school clubs or special projects.
