Job description
Cover Supervisor - Swale Academies Trust Secondary Schools

Location: Various Secondary Schools across Swale Academies Trust (Eastbourne)

Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience and hours)

Contract Type: Full-time or Part-time (Flexible)

Start Date: As soon as possible

Overview

Swale Academies Trust is looking to recruit reliable, confident and enthusiastic Cover Supervisors to support teaching and learning across our secondary schools. Whether you're seeking a full-time role or looking to work flexibly across the week, this is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and supportive education environment.

About the Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will play a vital role in maintaining continuity of education in the absence of the regular class teacher. You'll be delivering pre-prepared lessons and ensuring students remain engaged, motivated and focused on their learning throughout the day.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising classes during teacher absence
  • Managing classroom behaviour effectively
  • Ensuring pupils complete the work set by the teacher
  • Providing feedback to teaching staff after lessons
  • Upholding the school's values and safeguarding responsibilities at all times

This is an excellent role for individuals who are considering a career in education or want to make a difference in young people's lives, without the planning or marking responsibilities of a full teaching role.

What Kind of Person Are We Looking For?

We are seeking individuals who:

  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Are calm, resilient, and able to think on their feet
  • Can build positive relationships with students and staff
  • Are proactive, organised and reliable
  • Have a genuine interest in education and working with young people

Previous experience working in a school or with young people is desirable, but not essential - full and ongoing support will be provided. This role is well suited to graduates, teaching assistants looking to progress, or professionals from other sectors exploring a career in education.

Why Join Swale Academies Trust?
  • Opportunities to work across a range of secondary schools
  • A supportive and collaborative Trust community
  • High-quality professional development and training
  • Flexible working - choose from full-time (5 days) or part-time hours to suit your availability
  • A great stepping stone for teacher training or future career pathways in education

Whether you are looking for a full-time role or wish to work just a few days per week, we are happy to discuss flexible options that fit your lifestyle and commitments.
