Job Purpose
To supervise classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff, ensuring that students continue their learning by following pre-prepared lesson plans. The Cover Supervisor will maintain a positive learning environment, support behaviour expectations, and contribute to the smooth running of the school day.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise whole classes during the absence of teachers, delivering cover work as set by teaching staff.
- Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies to ensure a safe and productive environment.
- Respond to student questions and support them in completing set work without introducing new learning.
- Register attendance and report any concerns to the relevant staff.
- Provide feedback to teachers on how pupils engaged with the cover work.
- Supervise students outside of lessons, e.g. during break, lunchtime or detentions, as directed.
- Support administrative tasks, resource preparation or exam invigilation when not required for classroom cover.
- Promote the school's ethos, safeguarding principles and high expectations for all learners.
Person Specification (Essential)
- Minimum of GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
- Experience of working with young people aged 11-18 (in a school, youth work or similar setting).
- Ability to manage classroom behaviour confidently and fairly.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and equal opportunities.
Desirable:
- A Level (or equivalent) qualifications.
- Interest in pursuing a career in teaching or education
