The post holder will work as a substantive Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry, part of a multidisciplinary team. The role involves mainly community-based work to support assessment and management services for older adults with complex functional illnesses and memory difficulties. The post includes managing patients with dementia and leading the development of clinical pathways for older adults with functional mental disorders, in collaboration with the Lead Consultant Psychiatrist. The client group may include some patients under 65 with dementia or significant long-term physical illnesses or disabilities.

Main duties of the job
  • Promote multidisciplinary and multi-agency working within the Functional Illness Pathway and Memory Service. Provide consultation and support for DOT and Home Treatment Service as needed.
  • Support and develop integrated care pathways for older adults with mental health difficulties.
  • Provide statutory clinical reports as requested.
  • Apply evidence-based approaches to clinical practice.
  • Work with the Lead Consultant Psychiatrist for OPMH to provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team, in cooperation with the Service Manager.
  • Ensure high standards of risk assessment and psychiatric evaluations for all patients.
  • Support the development of a seamless, patient-centred service that respects social inclusion and cultural diversity.
  • Provide clinical support and supervision to multidisciplinary teams, including complex risk assessments.
  • Undertake Section 12 and Approved Clinician duties related to the Mental Health Act (1983), adhering to the current Code of Conduct.
