Job description
Site Supervisor / Site Surveyor (Rail)

Vickerstock are pleased to be working in partnership with a respected engineering and project delivery consultancy who are seeking to appoint three Site Supervisors / Site Surveyors to support a major railway infrastructure scheme.

The project is expected to run for 18 months and is focused within the rail sector, delivering key earthworks, drainage, and resilience works. Of the three positions available, two will be day shift roles and one will be a night shift role, with an additional premium paid for night working. While these roles are initially project-based, there is a strong potential for a permanent position to be offered upon successful completion of the scheme.

This opportunity would suit a recent graduate or an individual with up to two years' experience in a site‑based civil engineering or surveying role who is keen to develop a career within rail infrastructure.

Your new role as Site Supervisor / Site Surveyor

As a Site Supervisor / Site Surveyor, you will support the safe and efficient delivery of civil engineering works on a live railway project. Working alongside experienced engineers and site management teams, you will gain valuable hands‑on experience within a regulated rail environment.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting with site supervision and daily coordination of works.
  • Supporting the delivery of earthworks, drainage, and resilience works in line with programme and quality requirements.
  • Undertaking site inspections, surveys, setting‑out checks, and progress monitoring.
  • Ensuring works are carried out in compliance with health & safety standards and rail industry requirements.
  • Recording site data, producing reports and supporting project documentation.
  • Liaising with contractors, subcontractors and the wider project team to resolve site issues.
  • Supporting night‑shift operations where applicable (for the designated night role).
What you'll need to succeed as a Site Supervisor / Site Surveyor
  • A degree or qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction, Surveying or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience ranging from graduate level up to approximately two years in a site‑based civil engineering or infrastructure role.
  • A strong interest in rail and civil infrastructure projects.
  • A proactive, safety‑conscious approach to site activities.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a site team.
  • A full UK driving licence (essential).
  • Flexibility to work day or night shifts depending on role allocation.
What's in it for you?
  • Salary of £30,000 - £35,000, depending on experience.
  • Night shift premium for the night‑based position.
  • Full PTS training provided.
  • Exposure to a long‑term, high‑profile railway infrastructure scheme.
  • Potential for a permanent role following completion of the project.
  • Supportive environment with strong early‑career development opportunities.
