Overview

English Teacher - Secondary & Post-16

Specialist BESD / SEMH Provision

Pay: 28 to 30p/h (depending on qualifications and level of experience)

We are looking for a dedicated and resilient English Teacher to join a specialist secondary and further education setting in Cardiff, supporting learners with Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD/SEMH). This is a unique opportunity for an English Teacher to inspire and motivate students who may have experienced disruption in their education, helping them to achieve key qualifications and develop essential life skills.

The Role
  • Planning and delivering engaging English lessons (KS3 - Post-16) tailored to a diverse range of learners
  • Using creative approaches to re-engage students who may be disaffected or have gaps in their education
  • Embedding literacy across the curriculum and supporting functional skills development
  • Working closely with support staff and behaviour teams to create a positive and safe learning environment
  • Using effective de-escalation strategies and behaviour management to maintain engagement
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • QTS / PCET in English (or equivalent recognised qualification)
  • Experience teaching in challenging behaviour / BESD / SEMH settings (desirable)
  • PREVENT (desirable)
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • The ability to build trust, resilience, and motivation in young learners
  • A flexible, patient, and creative approach to teaching
