Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Ranger (Play) to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis. If you are passionate about the environment and want to be part of a team that shares your commitment, we would love to hear from you.

At Bracknell Forest, we pride ourselves on being a council which is stable and well-managed where our employees can thrive in a supportive environment. We understand the importance of a healthy work-life balance and offer a variety of flexible working practices.

About You...

You will have the practical skills and experience to carry out a range of estate maintenance and habitat management tasks, such as installing gates and stiles, fencing, strimming, mowing and contributing to woodland and heathland management. You will enjoy working as part of a supportive team and bring a positive, proactive attitude to caring for parks and open spaces. Your enthusiasm for the outdoors and commitment to maintaining natural environments will help ensure these spaces are welcoming and well-managed for the community and wildlife.

About The Team...

At Bracknell Forest, we are committed to creating a clean, green and vibrant environment for our residents and wildlife. Our dedicated Parks and Countryside team plays a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the Borough’s parks and open spaces - making them places our community can enjoy and take pride in.

As part of this enthusiastic and driven team, you will gain valuable hands-on experience, contribute to meaningful projects, and see the real impact of your work. We work collaboratively, with a flexible and entrepreneurial mindset, always striving to keep our award-winning green spaces in the best possible condition.

Key responsibilities...

  • Manage sites within the Borough for the benefit of people and wildlife
  • Encourage and support outdoor recreation and countryside access
  • You will also provide information and organise events, walks and talks to increase participation, enjoyment and understanding
  • Undertake weekly inspections of our play areas using digital data collection and undertake repairs to play equipment in a timely manner
  • Undertake minor maintenance tasks such as strimming, cleaning and vegetation management
  • Prepare work specifications and oversee the works of contractors

Training will be provided to fulfil these tasks.

Our benefits...

  • 25 days* annual leave increasing to 28 days* after 3 years’ continuous service.
  • The opportunity to buy up to 10 additional days* annual leave per year and sell 5 days.
  • Hybrid working opportunities to support your wellbeing and work-life balance.
  • Electric vehicle salary sacrifice for an electric car at a fixed monthly cost (subject to eligibility).
  • An inclusive and social working environment with a variety of staff networks.
  • Local government pension scheme.
  • Life insurance cover (linked to the pension scheme)
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption and fostering leave.
  • Recognition of continuous service attained within the NHS and UKHSA when calculating some benefits such as annual leave entitlements, occupational maternity/paternity leave, and more. (Terms and Conditions apply – please refer to candidate pack for more information.)
  • Career development through internal and external training opportunities.
  • A great office location next to travel links and Bracknell Forest’s thriving town centre.
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to support your health and wellbeing.
  • Sports and Social Club.
  • Staff dental and health plans.
  • Discounted leisure centre and gym membership.
  • Supermarket discount.
