Band 3 Health Care Assistant – Children’s Complex Care

Responsibilities
  • Support children with complex health needs in their homes and schools as part of the Children’s Complex Care team across Birmingham.
  • Provide basic nursing care and specialist care for children with complex disabilities due to chronic disease, congenital abnormalities, trauma, or those who are terminally ill and at the end of life.
  • Work as part of the nursing team and support other members of the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder may work in the service user’s home, hospital, hospice, school, or day centre depending on individual needs.
  • Deliver care in a variety of settings, including home and school. Train in clinical skills such as gastrostomy feeding, suction, and oxygen therapy using a competency-based framework.
  • Receive continued support in the role.
Qualifications
  • Good level of basic education including computer skills.
  • At least NVQ Level 3 in a child or young adult related subject or an equivalent level of experience.
  • Experience working with children who are ventilated or have complex health problems is beneficial but not essential.
  • Ability to be innovative in providing play and learning opportunities for children.
  • Flexibility in the community setting and the ability to develop collaborative working relationships with other healthcare professionals, services and agencies.
