Job description

Kick-start your career in engineering with a hands-on apprenticeship in the defence sector. We are looking for a motivated Apprentice Engineer to join our team in Portland, where you will combine workplace experience with college-based study to gain a recognised qualification and build the foundation for a long-term career.

As an Apprentice Test/Production Engineer, you will work alongside experienced professionals on real projects, supporting the manufacture of defence systems and components. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop practical skills, earn while you learn, and make an impact in a safety-critical and innovative industry.

What you will do:
  • Assist with the setup and operation of manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Support the planning and documentation of production activities.
  • Follow standard operating procedures, engineering drawings, and build instructions.
  • Help monitor product quality, identify issues, and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Keep accurate production records and comply with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and quality teams on live projects.
  • Participate in team problem-solving sessions and contribute ideas.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment.
What you will need:
  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 4/C or above, including Maths, English, and Science.
