An organization for independent living in the City of London seeks a Personal Care Assistant for a 28-year-old man with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The role offers 16 hours per week at £13.85 per hour, supporting daily tasks, personal care, and enabling independence. A full UK driving license is essential for the job. Flexible scheduling and a personal connection with interests such as music and outdoor activities are preferred.
I am a 28-year-old man who lives with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a progressive neuromuscular condition. I have been using a powered wheelchair since 2015. I am a determined and stubborn individual (in a good way!) who tries to make the most of life. I studied Neuroscience at the University of Nottingham between 2015-2018 and MSc Science Communication at the University of Sheffield between 2018-2019. I worked in healthcare communications for 18 months, and I’m now doing a part-time 2-year distance learning MSc Sustainable Development degree at SOAS. I also work with different charities supporting people living with DMD, including Pathfinders Neuromuscular Alliance and Duchenne UK. I currently live at home in South London/Surrey.
I have a keen interest in healthcare, science and being outdoors. Music is one of my passions, and at one point, I wanted to be a sound engineer/producer. I have a varied taste in music, DJing and making music when I have time! I am interested in watching sports (rugby, football, tennis…), films, the outdoors/walking, nature, gardening, design, reading, sailing, museums/exhibitions, meditation and accessing the community. I’m looking for a PA who shares and can support me with these interests. I am a sociable person who enjoys going out, but I do enjoy my own space!
I am looking for a PA who can cover 16 hours a week @£13.85 per/hr with flexibility. I need someone who can support me to live an independent life whilst living at home. I need help with daily tasks, personal care (hoisting, toileting, showering/washing, dressing, daily stretching, weekly swimming/hydrotherapy etc.), domestic tasks (meal + drink prep, maintaining a clean and tidy environment, cleaning ventilator, hoovering, ironing, making bed, cleaning room, wheelchair, shower seat etc.) socialising/going out (attending events, packing bag etc.), working/study from home and general support. Driving (automatic) is essential for this role. You must have a full UK or EU driving licence. I am unable to provide sponsorship for Visa.
