A leading environmental college in England seeks an experienced Horticulturist to support Horticulture programmes. The role involves practical instruction, resource management, and collaboration with teaching staff. This part-time position offers an actual salary of £21,471.20 - £24,560 and includes various staff benefits.
About The Role and Person
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Horticulturist, with a passion for training and inspiring young people. As a practical Instructor, you will support the teaching staff and students across all courses within the College’s specialist Horticulture programmes. Your duties will include resourcing plant material and tools for students and maintaining equipment and resources. You will also ensure that gardens/grounds and practice areas are maintained sustainably and meet high horticultural standards. Additionally, you will liaise with the Gunnersbury Park Manager to secure practical work opportunities for students and develop relationships with local external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have a broad range of industry skills, including operating, maintaining, and repairing horticultural machinery, along with experience in a training or educational setting. A Level 2 qualification in Horticulture is essential, and a PA1/PA6 certificate is desirable.
This role requires someone who is highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of working flexibly and independently to support practical courses and assessments effectively.
You will collaborate with Practical Instructor colleagues from other campuses to plan and manage the site’s daily operations. Travel to other campuses may be necessary to provide additional support.
Please note that this is a physically demanding role involving outdoor work year-round. It is a part-time position working 28.8 hours per week, with an actual salary of £21,471.20 - £24,560, inclusive of London Weighting.
