Joining the Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières (BRGM) means becoming part of the leading public establishment in the Earth sciences, bringing together 1,000 expert and enthusiastic people in 29 entities located in mainland France and overseas.

The aim of BRGM's work is to provide geological knowledge and an understanding of phenomena linked to the soil and subsoil, with one overriding objective: to meet the challenges of environmental change through innovative projects that have a major impact on society.

Under the supervision of a Project Manager, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the achievement of the objectives of the French Observatory of Mineral Resources for Industrial Value Chains (OFREMI), in compliance with the project’s governance framework;
  • Conducting techno-economic monitoring across the entire value chain, from upstream extraction to downstream processing, including analysis of production data, commodity prices, global trade flows, demand trends, uses and consumption patterns;
  • Contributing to the collection, capitalization and dissemination of data related to OFREMI themes across the full mineral raw materials value chain;
  • Performing comparative analyses of markets, industrial strategies and geopolitical dynamics at the global scale in the field of mineral resources;
  • Enhancing and disseminating results through scientific outputs such as briefing notes, reports and presentations, adapting communication to the required level and audience;
  • Developing and maintaining close collaboration with national and/or international partners involved in the projects you will support.
Context and contributions of the positions

BRGM is recruiting a Mineral Resources Economics Analyst Engineer for its Directorate for Mineral Resources (DRM) and its Mineral Intelligence Unit (DRM/IMI).

In a context of increasing demand related to mineral resources and the associated economic, environmental and societal challenges, you will contribute specifically to a project dedicated to these issues: the French Observatory of Mineral Resources for Industrial Value Chains (OFREMI).

You will be involved in the collection of information supporting monitoring and analysis of technical, economic, political and regulatory data, with the aim of producing syntheses and recommendations for governmental authorities, industrial stakeholders and partner research institutes.

This position is offered under a project-based permanent contract (CDI de projet). Your contribution will focus in particular on economic intelligence and monitoring activities, building an integrated, international overview of mineral value chains aligned with the needs of French industrial sectors, producing analyses and newsletters for stakeholders (governmental bodies, companies, research partners).

You will also contribute to the structuring, storage and dissemination of results for clients through BRGM’s secure dissemination platform, the OFREMI Information System.

You will demonstrate the following skills and attributes:

  • Proven expertise in economic analysis of mineral resources value chains;
  • Knowledge of end-user needs or ability to interface effectively between analysts and IT developers for data dissemination solutions;
  • Knowledge of geopolitics and/or regulatory frameworks governing mineral resource exploration and exploitation (France, Europe);
  • Strong writing skills and interest in disseminating scientific work (reports, publications, conference presentations);
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and strong communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to integrate into a project-based team environment;
  • Ability to work autonomously with a strong sense of initiative;
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken;
  • Strong sense of responsibility and organizational skills.
