Job Purpose

This role supports all aspects of power unit, dyno, and vehicle wiring applications, including the design and implementation of vehicle harnesses and looms for various systems and test equipment. It also involves delivering turnkey wiring solutions for Hybrid and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), with a focus on high-voltage electrical safety across a voltage range of 12V to 1000V.


Key Accountabilities


  • Wiring System Installation & Support: Install and maintain wiring systems across various vehicle platforms, ensuring reliability and safety.

  • Component Selection & Specification: Source and specify appropriate components, wire gauges, and protective materials for applications ranging from 14V to 1000V and high-current systems.

  • High-Voltage System Integration: Support the installation and servicing of high-voltage systems including control units, inverters, DC-DC converters, displays, contactors, and fault detection/isolation components for hybrid and electric power units.

  • Safety & Serviceability Considerations: Ensure all wiring and system installations meet safety standards and are service-friendly.

  • Cross-Departmental Wiring Support: Provide wiring and test system support to various departments for power unit (PU) and vehicle operations.

  • Dyno & Trackside Engineering Collaboration: Assist dyno and trackside engineers in understanding and applying test equipment and wiring systems effectively.


Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Minimum of a High School Diploma; some college coursework required. A BS in Engineering is a plus. Over 10 years in the design, manufacture, and support of wiring harnesses and related systems in elite motorsport categories including CART, IndyCar, Sportscar, and Formula 1. At least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role, managing design, scheduling, and vendor communications. Extensive knowledge of military-spec wiring procedures and components. Skilled in motor racing loom design, layout, installation, and repair, including high-voltage systems (60V and above). Proficient with specialized harness production tools, test equipment, and electrical diagnostic tools. Strong understanding of automotive systems, including ignition systems and ECUs, with the ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams. Proven ability to lead teams, manage projects from concept to completion, and coordinate across departments. PC proficient, with familiarity in relevant software and documentation tools.


Working Conditions


  • Physical Demands Requirements: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist while working.

  • Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees to work on close to the groundwork.

  • Crawling.

  • Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet to work underneath suspended vehicles/equipment to diagnose problems and/or remove/replace parts.

  • Standing for sustained periods during work or events.

  • Sitting. Extensive travel and long travels.

  • Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks (particularly walking long distances at the track to pit lane and around shop).

  • Lifting. Raising objects of 25 pounds from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.

  • Repetitive motion. Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers while servicing/maintaining an engine, vehicles and equipment.

  • The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat and exposure to chemicals.
