Your role as a Principal Project Manager, Automation & Innovation

This is a unique opportunity to join GXO, help to shape and drive the strategic direction of automation solutions and maintenance strategy across the region. We need someone that is a maintenance expert!

Due to travel 50‑75% of the time within Continental Europe, our role can be based in Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany or Poland. Fluency in English is required; additional European languages are a benefit.

Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Automation & Adaptive Technology for Continental Europe.

What you need to succeed at GXO as a Principal Project Manager, Automation & Innovation
  • Shape Maintenance Strategy: Contribute to the development of a Continental Europe maintenance/automation strategy. Define and implement technical support and maintenance standards for large‑scale automated sites.
  • Drive Operational Efficiency through standardization of maintenance activities: Lead continuous improvement initiatives by benchmarking performance, analysing maintenance metrics, and identifying opportunities to enhance system availability and reduce downtime.
  • Support Implementation of Automation Solutions: Guide and support the deployment of new automation technologies, ensuring successful integration and scalability across sites.
  • Foster Cross‑Country Collaboration with Maintenance Teams: Promote and coordinate collaboration across the European operational community to share knowledge, align strategies, and drive synergies.
What You Bring
  • Proven Performance Evaluation Skills: Demonstrated experience in assessing the performance of automated systems, with a strong background in machine reliability and maintenance within central teams.
  • Operational & Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of complex automated systems—ideally within logistics—and hands‑on experience implementing large‑scale automation across multiple sites and regions.
  • Data Analysis: Experience in building Power BI dashboards of input metrics as a mechanism to drive improvement.
  • Collaborative & Practical Mindset: A grounded, team‑oriented approach with flexibility and a strong sense of ownership.
  • Strategic Vision: Ability to think both tactically and strategically, balancing short‑term execution with long‑term planning.
  • Influential Leadership: Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and align diverse teams and decision‑makers.
  • Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel extensively (50%–75%) across Continental Europe as needed.
  • Languages: Fluent in English; any other European languages are beneficial.
We offer you.
  • Remote Working – Flexibility to work from home and balance your lifestyle.
  • Impactful Role – Opportunity to help shape and drive the strategic direction of a dynamic organisation.
  • Open & Informal Culture – A collaborative environment that values transparency and innovation.
  • GXO MyBenefits – Comprehensive benefits tailored to your needs.
  • Personal Growth & Development – Access to learning programmes through GXO University to support your career progression.

Unlock the potential of your future!
