Overview

This role ensures the reliability, security, and performance of core infrastructure, including VMware virtualization, Windows and Linux systems, enterprise storage and backup solutions, and DNS services.

The engineer will report to the IMT Architecture & Infrastructure Services (AIS) unit and work closely with colleagues across IMT to support client’s Hybrid Data Centre Environments. The position requires strong technical expertise, proactive problem-solving, and the ability to implement best practices that maintain secure and uninterrupted operations.

Responsibilities

Linux Systems Administration & Automation

• Provide expert-level administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems, ensuring performance, security, and stability.
• Design, implement, and maintain automated solutions for provisioning and managing RHEL virtual machines.
• Perform efficient patching and upgrades of Linux servers with minimal downtime.
• Develop, test, and maintain automation scripts for routine and complex tasks.
• Ensure consistent lifecycle management of Linux infrastructure.

DNS Infrastructure Management

• Administer and secure chrooted BIND environments on all DNS servers.
• Manage internal and external DNS services, ensuring reliability and security.
• Implement DNSSEC and maintain best practices for DNS resilience.
• Standardize and document DNS operational procedures.

Data Centre Operations & Virtualization

• Manage VMware vSphere 8 environments (6-host farm) using vCenter and Aria Operations.
• Administer Dell PowerStore 3200T iSCSI shared storage arrays, including provisioning, replication, and maintenance.
• Operate Dell PowerProtect (PPDM) and DataDomain backup solutions, ensuring effective VM and data recovery.
• Manage iSCSI network infrastructure for VMware datastores.
• Troubleshoot and coordinate with vendors for hardware repairs, firmware updates, and system replacements.
• Enforce strict security and compliance standards across all infrastructure components.

General Operations & Collaboration

• Contribute to the development of operational processes, procedures, and documentation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal system performance and service delivery.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Essential Skills & Knowledge

Linux System Administration

• Advanced hands-on experience with RHEL (and derivatives such as CentOS or Fedora) in enterprise environments.
• Strong knowledge of Linux networking, storage, and security.
• Proven experience with automation and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible).

DNS Administration

• Expertise with BIND DNS, including chrooted environments.
• Strong understanding of DNSSEC, zone transfers, and troubleshooting resolution issues.

VMware & Storage Administration

• Extensive experience with VMware ESXi, vCenter, and related infrastructure management.
• Proficiency with iSCSI configuration, storage integration, and performance optimization.
• Hands-on experience with Dell EMC PowerStore arrays (or equivalent enterprise storage).
• Backup management experience with PowerProtect and DataDomain platforms.
• Strong hardware troubleshooting skills and vendor engagement.

Security & Compliance

• Experience applying hardening guides, access controls, patching, and vulnerability management.

Desirable Skills

• Industry certifications (Microsoft, Linux, VMware).
• Experience maintaining detailed system and process documentation.
• Knowledge of Dell hardware lifecycle management (firmware, BIOS, RAID, network interfaces).
• Familiarity with containers and Red Hat OpenShift.

Languages

• Essential: Expert command of spoken and written English.
• Desirable: Basic knowledge of French.

Other IT Skills

• Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Experience with MS SharePoint and Visio.
