As solar energy adoption continues to grow, end-of-life management of components such as solar panels and associated materials becomes increasingly critical. To address this, we are exploring opportunities in recycling infrastructure to support a more sustainable value chain.
About the Role
We are looking for a motivated Master’s student to conduct a feasibility study on solar PV recycling in Europe with a main focus on solar modules (potentially extending to batteries). As plants age, recycling is becoming not only an environmental responsibility but also a business opportunity. Currently, we rely on third-party providers, so this thesis will explore whether in-house recycling could be a strategic and financially viable option.
What You’ll Work On
EU’s current status on Solar recycling:
Research the state of solar recycling across Europe, including regulations, practices, and market developments.
Recycling Process Fundamentals: Identify what materials are truly recycled versus what is only transformed or downcycled.
Business Feasibility Study:Develop a high-level business plan for potential in-house recycling. Evaluate financial implications (costs, ROI, investment needs).Provide guidance on possible locations and strategic set-up.
Additional Coverage:
• Analyzethe potential market valueofrecyclablematerial
• Currentrecycling practices (3rd party) vs. possible in-house solutions
• Explore expansion potential to batteries and other components
• Provide recommendations on economic and strategic viability
