Position

Junior Professorship (W1) with tenure track to W3 in IT Security or alternatively a Full Professorship (W3) in IT Security.

Scope and Duration

The junior professorship is initially limited to 3 years and may be extended for an additional 3 years if the interim evaluation is positive. After a positive final evaluation, the position will be upgraded to a permanent W3 university professorship without any new call for applications. Academics applying directly for the W3 university professorship should make this clear in their application.

Research Focus

Research must focus on at least one of the following areas:

  • Software security
  • Network security
  • Digital forensics
  • System security
  • Hardware security
  • Usable security
  • Applied cryptography
  • Application security
Teaching Responsibilities

All essential areas of IT security must be covered in teaching. Candidates should be willing to teach courses in German. In addition, a willingness to participate actively in teaching computer science fundamentals and in curricular development within the faculty's degree programs is expected.

Teaching at the FernUniversität integrates modern educational technologies and takes place both digitally and in person. Active participation in the development and implementation of innovative teaching and learning formats in accordance with university quality standards is expected.

Professional Development and Governance

Applicants for a junior professorship (W1) with tenure track should have a successful record of acquiring third‑party funding; for applicants for a W3 university professorship, this is mandatory.

Active participation in academic self‑governance is expected.

Qualifications

The prerequisite for employment is academic achievement in accordance with Section 36 of the NRW Higher Education Act.
