Part‑Time Academic PSYO 3444 Criminal Behaviour, Winter 2026

Position Title: Part‑Time Academic PSYO 3444 Criminal Behaviour, Winter 2026

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

This course provides a theoretical and practical understanding of the causes and correlates of criminal behaviour. Topics include biological and social theories of crime, risk assessment, rehabilitation, and the application of each topic to the study of different populations involved in the justice system (youth, women, Indigenous peoples, etc.).

The Part‑Time Academic will be responsible for teaching a 3000‑level lecture course, Criminal Behaviour (PSYO 3444.03). The class is scheduled on Tuesdays & Thursdays, 1:05 pm to 2:25 pm, on Dalhousie’s Studley campus in Halifax, NS. The anticipated enrollment is 85 students, and the course comes with a TA90.

Responsibilities of the successful applicant will include:

  • Developing 12 weeks of content, including lectures, readings, and assessments
  • Preparation and administration of assessments (e.g., quizzes/exams; assignments)
  • Grading assessments and providing timely feedback to students (in collaboration with the course TA)
  • Responding to students emails in a timely manner.
  • Providing course content (e.g., syllabus, notes, grades) on Brightspace, Dalhousie’s learning management system.
  • Maintaining a record of all student grades (including grades for each assessment component) in Brightspace, and ensuring timely submission of final letter grades to the registrar’s office.

This position reports to the Chair of the Department.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position

Applicants must have graduate training in Psychology or a closely related discipline, and must have research or teaching experience in one or more areas relevant to those listed in the course description above. Proficiency with delivery of course content using a learning management system and experience teaching in an online environment (using Brightspace in particular) are considered assets.
