A prestigious university in Toronto is seeking a Sessional Instructional Assistant for the HIS356H1-S War in Canadian History course. The successful candidate will hold at least a Master's degree in History and have relevant teaching experience. Responsibilities include attending lectures, grading assignments, and consulting with students. This part-time position offers approximately 106 hours of work at a rate of $54.27 per hour, plus vacation pay.
HIS356H1-S, L5101 War in Canadian History
This course examines war as a major force in the history of Canada from the so‑called colonial period to recent times. In addition to key dynamics in military history (e.g. battles, military organization), the course will stress the links between war and society, politics, empire and colonialism, technology and environment, memory and commemoration, and identity. Topics may include indigenous warfare and diplomacy, imperial rivalry in early North America, Canada and the British Empire, the world wars, the Cold War, and peacekeeping. Soldiers and peaceniks are both welcome and will be equally happy and annoyed.
Dates of Appointment: January 1, 2026 – April 30, 2026
Qualifications: Minimum M.A. in History required: good knowledge of subject matter. Previous experience or training with Quercus is an asset.
Duties: Attend lectures; grading assignments and exams; consulting with supervisor/students; invigilating final exams; other duties as needed in consultation with instructor.
Estimated hours per position: Approximately 106 hours
Rate of Pay: $54.27 per hour plus 4% vacation pay
