Job summary
A railway supply company in Hamilton, Ontario is seeking a General Labourer for permanent full-time employment. Currently we are seeking a General Labourer to join the team at our Wheelshop in Hamilton, Ontario, performing the loading, unloading, movement and organization of materials.
Position: General Labourer
Employment Status: Permanent, Fulltime
Schedule: Shift work, overtime and weekends as required.
Start Date: Immediately
- Load, unload and move materials from different types of equipment such as flatbed trailers, box trailers, containers, box rail cars and center beam rail cars.
- Sort, crate and stack materials.
- Assist and coordinate with machine operators and other shop floor processes.
- Communicate with inbound truck drivers, obtaining paperwork and verifying material quantities.
- Communicate with outbound truck drivers, verifying bills of lading to carriers and signing paperwork on departure.
- Adhere to and promote safety protocols.
- High‑school Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 1-2 years experience safely acting as a general labourer.
- A moderate comfort level with computers and role-associated technology.
- Forklift Operator certificate a plus.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding industrial environment.
- Ability to perform physical activities that require full-body mobility, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and standing for an extended period.
- Ability to lift 50 lb in a safe manner.
- Occasionally work outdoors in adverse conditions.
