A leading educational institution in Canada is seeking a casual-time research field technician for their Barley and Oat Breeding Program. The successful candidate will perform post-harvest data collection and help with field plot work. A grade 12 diploma and good organizational skills are essential. This part-time position offers competitive hourly pay based on experience, with the possibility of flexible working hours during planting and harvest seasons.
A casual-time research field technician is required in the Barley and Oat Breeding Program at the Crop Development Centre, Department of Plant Sciences, College of Agriculture and Bioresources. There are currently 20 full-time staff employed in this diverse program which breeds malt, feed, food and forage barley varieties, as well as milling, feed and forage oat varieties.
Primary Purpose and Nature of work: The successful candidate will work primarily on post-harvest data collection and may work on field plot establishment, maintenance, and harvest if the term is extended.
Typical Duties or Accountabilities: If the term is extended the candidate must be able to perform physically demanding work in an outdoor field environment, work flexible hours during planting and harvest seasons, travel outside the Saskatoon area on a limited basis, and hold a valid class 5 driver’s license.
Education: A grade 12 diploma with some experience in agricultural or biology-based research.
Licenses: Valid class 5 Drivers License
Experience: Relevant work experience in a small-plot field research program, including the operation of field and small-plot equipment, is desirable but not required.
Skills: The position requires good organizational skills, the ability to communicate and relate effectively with staff, effective written and oral English communication skills, and the capacity to receive direction from supervisors.

Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $17.64 - 24.70 per hour. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
