Qualifications

• Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSPR) required.
• Experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital, an asset.
• Knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy are an asset.

Responsibilities

• Participates in the provision of safe, patient-centered ethical care.
• Prepares, packages and dispenses medication under pharmacist supervision.
• Compounds sterile and non-sterile dosage forms.

Skills

Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program

Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician

Drug administration by injection technical permit

BLS (Basic Life Support)

Experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant

Knowledge of sterile technique

Experience in unit dose drug distribution systems

Knowledge of medical terminology

Good decision making and problem solving skills

Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Basic typing skills or computer/keyboard experience

Competencies in other languages

Knowledge of the law and regulations

Education
