Position Summary: This course is designed to help Teacher Candidates to learn how to effectively meet the needs of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit learners in the classroom and connect non-Indigenous learners to Indigenous knowledges, worldviews, and related practices through relevant and meaningful academic programming and co- curricular activities. To be examined are topics related to sovereignty, identity, land treaties, language reclamation and revitalization, environment sustainability, as well as historical and contemporary topics impacting Indigenous self-determination in the Canadian sociocultural and socioeconomic landscape.

Successful candidate will work with the course lead in order to provide consistency across sections.

Qualifications – Required: Master’s degree in Education or Indigenous Studies or Indigenous Knowledge Keeper; Teaching experience with K-10 students in FNMI topics and/or lived experience as an Indigenous person (as per Laurier verification process); Evidence of leadership and/or scholarship in the area of FNMI in schools

This appointment is in accordance with the Contract Teaching Faculty and Part-time Librarians Collective Agreement , for which the Wilfrid Laurier Faculty Association (WLUFA) is the exclusive bargaining agent.
