    DART 1F40 - WINTER (Scenic Carpentry instructor) 0.8 of a full course instructor stipend

    Scenography and Stagecraft

    Fundamentals and creative application of design for theatre. Topics may include costuming, design, drafting, lighting, projection, properties, scenic carpentry, sound, performance venues and their history.

    Please note: this appointment represents 0.8 of a full course stipend (312 hours nominally including teaching and all associated tasks) and includes teaching 2 cohorts of students for 4 h labs during the same day during one 12 week session (fall)

    WINTER portion of the course: Jan 5 – Apr 2, 2026

    Friday - 9:00 –1 3:00 and 14:00–18:00

    Compensation

    Please note that this appointment represents 0.8 of a full course instructor stipend (312 hours nominally)

    Effective September 1, 2024 - $7,471.08 per half course (195 hours nominally)
    Effective September 1, 2024 - $14,942.17 per full course (390 hours nominally)
    Please note: Instructors who are employed in a 2-hour/week lecture, or the equivalent of a 2-hour/week lecture, are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

    Duties

    Duties and responsibilities will be in accordance with Article 22.01 of the Collective Agreement. These include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading and course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty).

    Qualifications

    1. MFA or equivalent professional experience in scenic carpentry for theatre and performance, or a relevant, related discipline.

    2. Significant professional contributions to scenic carpentry for theatre and performance, or a relevant, related discipline.

    3. Successful, relevant, theoretically informed post-secondary teaching experience. Evidence of teaching effectiveness will ideally consist of a complete teaching dossier. Previous course evaluations, peer teaching evaluations, teaching letters of recommendation, or equivalent objective, systematically collected evidence will also be considered.

    4. Expertise in anti-oppressive, decolonizing, anti-racist, anti-supremacist, or related approaches to theatre making, theatre pedagogy, and/or theatrical practices. Evidence of expertise will ideally demonstrate how these principles are integrated into the applicant’s post-secondary teaching. Expertise may include, for example, scholarly presentations or publications, development of professional practices, academic or professional leadership, consulting work, or professional development or training.

    5. Demonstrated ability to use the BRIGHTSPACE online learning management system, the BrockDB online portal, the OASIS system for managing student accommodations, or equivalent systems in other institutions.

    * Part-time Graduate Students and Non-Students shall not accept any appointment which, taken together with all other appointments at the University, would cause the member to exceed the maximum number of regular hours - i.e. not overtime hours - allowable in a work week under the Employment Standards Act, as amended from time to time.
