About the Role
This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned engineer and strong collaborator to help drive the vision and execution of Uber’s Advanced Matching solutions — shaping the future of how earners, drivers, and couriers connect across the platform.
You will work on building entirely new ways to earn on Uber, optimizing matching and routing for both scheduled and real-time orders. This work will directly support some of Uber’s fastest-growing product verticals (like Uber Direct and Uber Courier), helping scale them into billion-dollar revenue pillars, powered by deep marketplace knowledge and innovative engineering.

What You Will Do
Lead technical vision and execution for extending Uber’s core Matching capabilities into new product verticals.
Partner closely with product teams (Uber Direct, Uber Courier) to deeply understand business needs and unlock new order volume through advanced matching solutions.
Design and evolve architecture for the Matching and Pricing systems, ensuring scalability, extensibility, and high performance.
Identify and drive major improvements across the Matching platform and related systems, raising efficiency and reliability.
Align engineering efforts across teams, clarifying ownership and responsibility between platforms and product services.
Mentor and inspire engineers, driving a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Champion engineering best practices, delivering high-quality code, robust documentation, thorough testing, and strong operational monitoring.
Basic Qualifications
PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field AND 2-years full-time Software Engineering work experience OR 5-years full-time Software Engineering work experience, WHICH INCLUDES 3-years total technical software engineering experience in one or more of the following areas:
Programming language (e.g. C, C++, Java, Python, or Go)
Note the 3-years total of specialized software engineering experience may have been gained through education and full-time work experience, additional training, coursework, research, or similar (OR some combination of these). The years of specialized experience are not necessarily in addition to the years of Education & full-time work experience indicated.

Preferred Qualifications
For Canada-based roles: The base salary range for this role is CAD$189,000 per year - CAD$210,000 per year.
