As a member of the nursing Leadership team, the Clinical Coordinator is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Labour and Delivery unit and reports directly to the Nursing Unit Administrator (NUA). As a key member of the nursing leadership team, the Clinical Coordinator will participate in and support development and implementation of departmental goals and quality and safety programs; professional development initiatives, performance management and recruitment/selection process, and program development. In collaboration with the Nursing Unit Administrator, she/he is responsible for staff scheduling, payroll submissions, and day-to-day operations and staff support.

About this team:
The Labour and Delivery Unit is a tertiary level care centre in Toronto. We deliver approximately 6,500 patients and their families each year. Our patients are antenatal and perinatal. We provide both low and high risk obstetrical care. Our space is comprised of 19 birthing suites, 7 Triage beds, 5 Operating Rooms and 5 ODU beds within an Observation Day Unit (ODU).

In this role you will:

1. Daily co-ordination of Unit activities, flow, safe assignments, ensuring break coverage etc.
2. Support and maintain the philosophy, goals, objectives and standards of the Department of Nursing
3. Support Team Leader with issues regarding patient flow, patient complaints, risk issues, supply and/or equipment needs
4. Order required supplies and equipment as approved by the NUA
5. Ensure accuracy of OHIP process, develops plans to mitigate errors
6. Schedule Registered Nurse and Clerical support staff and ensure short-term and long-term staffing needs are addressed
7. Maintain and monitor of information technology systems that support practice (e.g. clinical documentation and workload measurement systems, including those related to new or existing equipment)
8. Ensure BORN Labour and Delivery data elements are accurate. This includes ensuring data entry compliance, data validation; assist with implementing new BORN data collection components/enhancements in EMR
9. Participate in professional development initiatives, performance management of staff nurses, and recruitment and hiring
10. Support improvements in patient care through the application of standards of practice, research and evidence-based practice; promote development of critical thinking and analytical skills
11. Collaborate with the Nursing Unit Administrator to ensure fiscally responsible product management and work with staff and others in the implementation of new products and technologies
12. Manage equipment and Service Assistants to address environmental issues
13. Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of quality and safety initiatives
14. In collaboration with the Nursing Unit Administrator, participate in Occupational Health and Safety Unit assessments and interventions, and in Quality and Risk Management as it relates to safety reporting and managing patient/family concerns. Support recommendations stemming from quality reviews and safety reports
15. Participate in Nursing Department and unit-based committees such as the Unit Council and Renew Sinai committees
16. Participate in process improvements for the units, accreditation activities initiatives and Renew Sinai initiatives
17. Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned
