Product Director, OTT - CBC

Location: Toronto or Montreal

Department: Digital Strategy & Product (Toronto)

Reports to: Senior Director, Audience-Facing Products

Job Overview:

CBC is seeking an experienced Product Director to co-lead our Over-The-Top (OTT) product group. In close partnership with your counterpart at Radio-Canada, you will be responsible for aligning the OTT team’s product objectives and priorities with CBC and Radio-Canada’s overall audience and business goals to drive a harmonized product strategy that serves both Tou.TV and CBC Gem.

You and your counterpart at Radio-Canada will guide our team of product managers and owners and collaborate cross-functionally with product-related functions — including design, engineering, data and operations. You will also collaborate closely with numerous partners outside the OTT product group, including Content, Marketing & Communications and Revenue, as well as other product teams.

The product directors are ultimately accountable for setting the OTT product strategy and ensuring its successful execution. Your key responsibilities will include driving the product roadmap, managing product managers and owners, communicating and collaborating with key stakeholders and partners, and overseeing effective product practice across the team.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Strategy & Roadmap:

  • Set product objectives and priorities that are aligned with overall business objectives to ensure strategic coherence and successful execution for CBC/Radio-Canada’s OTT services.

  • Develop, implement and evolve the OTT product strategy and roadmap, focused on bringing value to users and the business.

  • Provide strategic context for objectives and priorities to the OTT product group.

  • Develop and present business cases to address strategic questions and support new product initiatives.

  • Sync business strategy and objectives with the product strategy in the form of OKRs (Objectives and Key Results).

Communication & Risk Management:

  • Communicate product priorities, strategy, and progress effectively to the OTT team, partners, and stakeholders.

  • Ensure transparency and alignment across all levels of the organization regarding OTT product initiatives, priorities and goals.

  • Resolve prioritization conflicts, ensuring that the most critical initiatives are prioritized appropriately. This includes acting as the primary escalation point for prioritization issues within the OTT product group.

  • Identify and manage risks at the product level, ensuring that potential issues are anticipated and mitigated.

  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure the stability and reliability of Tou.TV and CBC Gem.

Staff Management & Capacity Planning:

  • Manage and mentor the OTT product managers and product owners, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.

  • Conduct regular performance reviews, manage performance challenges, provide ongoing feedback, and support professional development.

  • Provide input into team structure, capacity planning and resource allocation to ensure the OTT product group has the necessary resources to meet strategic goals.

Product Practice:

  • Establish and maintain best practices for product management within the OTT team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

  • Implement and optimize processes to ensure efficient product discovery and delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Proven experience (10+ years) in product management, with a focus on OTT, video streaming services or related digital products.

  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring product teams.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and align stakeholders at all levels.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of making data-driven decisions.

  • Experience with OKRs and other strategic planning frameworks.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Please note that due to the nature of the mandates and responsibilities of this role, all candidates will be required to work in a multilingual environment, where business will be conducted in both official languages (English and French). Therefore, employees working in this role will be expected to make the required efforts and adjustments to navigate this multilingual environment in a respectful manner for all.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.

We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the next

step will be asked to complete a background check. This includes:

  • A mandatory Criminal record check.

  • Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.
