Your role

CBC Nunavut in Iqaluit delivers news and current affairs through our digital, radio and television platforms in both Inuktitut and English. We are looking for people who are interested in developing a journalistic career with CBC in Nunavut. We are seeking an Announcer, assigned to Inuktitut versioning. You will perform tasks associated with the preparation and on-air presentation of program material on television, radio and online. Work is governed by CBC programming and/or journalistic policies and standards but there is some latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Key Tasks
  • Preparation of material for broadcast in Inuktitut.
  • Translating and presenting live or recorded voice-over English and Inuktitut clips.
  • Translating, voicing-over longer pieces that are produced by local, network and by regional reporters.
  • Present Inuktitut radio newscast in the afternoons.
  • Translate and present summaries of international news.
  • Prepare and edit Inuktitut/English “phoner boards” and other graphics for television.
  • copy-edit written material for broadcast.
  • carry out general presentation and voicing of station and weather breaks, announcements, promotional and other on-air material.
  • Back up hosting of television and radio programs.
We are looking for
  • Deep understanding of Inuit culture, history, language and cultural practices.
  • Excellent Inuktitut language skills, and good skills in English.
  • Previous interpreter/translator experience and/or training
  • Strong team player, able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Previous broadcasting experience would be an asset
  • Good computer skills
  • Good organizational skills.
