A municipal government is seeking a Recreation Clerk 1 in Burnaby. This temporary part-time position involves clerical work and public contact, requiring a Grade 12 education and customer service experience. Schedule: 64 hours bi-weekly (0.91 FTE); Monday to Thursday from 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM

This position works in the Eileen Dailly – Administration organizational unit. It involves public contact, clerical and typing work of moderate complexity in scheduling and processing applications for recreation or fine arts facilities and registrations for various recreation programs.
An employee of this class is in constant contact with community groups and the general public, providing information related to facilities and programs, booking facilities and registering participants for various programs. The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgement and action within established guidelines or complex or unusual problems are discussed with a supervisor. Work performance is evaluated on the basis of accuracy and efficiency of services rendered and effectiveness in dealing with the public.
Performs related work as required.
• Process and schedule recreation and fine arts program applications.
• Book and register facilities and participants for programs.
• Handle public inquiries and provide information about facilities and programs.
• Maintain accurate records and use office computer applications including ActiveNet.
• Perform cash handling and register operations as required.
• Completion of Grade 12 with commercial and typing courses or equivalent training and experience.
• Customer service and cash handling experience of at least a few years.
• Sound knowledge of department facilities, programs, booking and registration procedures.
• Proficiency in clerical recordkeeping, modern office methods, business English, spelling, arithmetic and punctuation.
• Ability to compose routine correspondence, memoranda, reports, tabulations, summaries and related materials.
• Rapid and accurate typing skills and familiarity with computer systems and office applications.
• Ability to handle possible Police Information Check.
The position is posted under the terms of the 2023 Inside Memorandum of Agreement to enable the senior capable applicant to be confirmed into the regular part time position, subject to the successful passing of skills tests applicable to this classification, and to have no discipline or recorded safety infractions in the previous eighteen (18) months.
