Sad Nuggie isn't just a store. It’s a destination. With visitors traveling from across North America, Europe, and even Australia to visit and adopt our Nuggies, our experiential retail space has become a tourism staple for the area. We are currently renovating what will be a fully immersive plush adoption experience; not just a store with nuggies on a shelf. It’s a mini theme park, and our fans are deeply committed to the characters, lore, and experience.
We are looking for a Retail Experience & Operations Manager who can manage the logistics and staff of a high-volume retail space while also ensuring every customer interaction is on-brand, immersive, and magical. This is not a traditional retail role. This position blends structure, leadership, creativity, and performance in a one-of-a-kind setting.
Position Overview
This role combines full operational management with a strong focus on maintaining and delivering the Sad Nuggie experience. The manager will be responsible for launching and overseeing our flagship immersive retail location and will be expected to take full ownership of the retail side of the business. This includes managing staff, systems, inventory, and the customer experience with professionalism and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the setup and launch of a new immersive retail store, including layout, merchandising, staffing, and systems
• Oversee day-to-day operations in a high-traffic, tourist-driven environment
• Hire, train, schedule, and manage a team of 10+ retail staff
• Uphold and enforce Sad Nuggie’s character lore, emotional tone, and guest interaction standards
• Train all staff to deliver on-brand, in-character experiences
• Coordinate with the Inventory Manager to balance online and retail stock
• Maintain store cleanliness, organization, and visual presentation standards
• Manage all cash handling, till balancing, bank deposits, and loss prevention protocols
• Prepare and submit payroll data accurately and on time
• Act as the point of accountability for store performance, staff morale, and guest satisfaction
Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Retail Manager (not assistant/keyholder roles)
• Experience managing large teams (10+ employees) in a high-volume retail setting
• Strong operational skills in inventory, scheduling, cash handling, and team leadership
• Exceptional communication, time management, and problem-solving abilities
• Experience in fast-paced or high-pressure environments such as flagship stores, tourist attractions, or themed retail spaces
• Must be available for weekends, holidays, and event days
Preferred Assets
• Experience working in themed or immersive retail environments
• Background in toys, fandom-based products, or pop culture retail
• Familiarity with Shopify POS, Square, or similar systems
• A personal interest in branding, worldbuilding, or storytelling
Compensation and Growth
• $23 hour starting wage, with higher rates considered based on experience
• 30–40 hours per week
